History of the middle school

Coll_geIn 1660, the Jesuits, famous in France for their qualities of teachers, finance the construction of a building, that will be a school in the center of Cayenne. The name will be Seminar or Small middle school. They receive many donations and particularly an important one from Mrs PAILLE, wich will be used to build, in 1748, at the current site a bigger building called the Colonial middle school of Cayenne. In 1848, this place becomes public and takes the name of Middle School of Cayenne. In 1920 the Baccalaureat can be prepared there. After few transformations it becomes in 1944, the high school Felix Eboué. Because of the great number of pupils, another high school is built outside Cayenne. In August 1980, it goes back to be a middle school and takes the name of Eugene Nonnon middle school . The main courtyard is classified as a historic monument.
